I have been working on the OT survey going on three months now. Since I haven't taken a final yet I'm not quite sure what to expect. I normally don't take this long to cover materials but I guess its the not knowing that's getting to me. Any suggestions? I am eager to move on... :)

Welcomes to the Ames family!! I was nervous the first exam I took (which seems sooo long ago lol). The exams are straight forward. There are no "trick" questions. The material in the course really does prepare you to succeed on the exams. If you're able to, it might not hurt to review the material before you take the exam. That way things that you studied at the beginning of the course won't be "forgotten". One thing that helps me is every so often during a course, I will sometimes stop where I am and scan over the previous chapters so that my memory is refreshed. Ames does a really good job of having their courses build upon each other. I hope this helps

Gabrielle, Don't be filled with anxiety. Allow God to work with you and fill you with special content as you go thru each hr. of study. You will be able to handle the final, because by the time you are finished with the class you will be ready for the final. At the end do some review and then just take the test and you will do fine. One thing I have found is that the writer wants you to be successful and at the same time learn from God. The key is to learn and to allow God to fill you in His special ways. Before each study time make sure that you say a prayer asking God to bless you in special learning ways in which only He can provide. God will teach you, through the Holy Spirit if you really are willing and open your heart to Him.
God bless you.:)

I just started, and I am wondering about the test, too. This is largely because, given the nature of the "survey" course, I don't really understand how it would be tested. We aren't expected to have the whole outline memorized, right? (I hope. I'm not THAT good! lol) So what is on the test? Is the material in the "for further study" sections on the test? Do we have to know the life and ministry principles word-for-word? I have a feeling I'm imagining this test to be much harder than it actually is. lol

Yes, you are imagining this test harder than it actually is, lol. During the survey course, as I remember, we are to be reading through the scriptures as we go along. Some of the stories that you read will be on there such as King David. Nothing tricky or really obscure. The "for further study" sections aren't on the exam per se. From what I've gathered, that is for personal growth. That section is not one I usually do unless I feel drawn for some specific reason. And don't worry about having the whole outline memorized. Just pray and ask God for His wisdom on how to study for this and any test that AISOM has. Just remember that the survey course is just that...a survey. It is a general study of God's Word. There is no way in just one time through that you could understand or remember everything. This is reflected on the exam. So don't worry!!

Hey Gabrielle,
My expirience about studying is that you must be prepared psycologically. Keep your mind at rest and destract yourself from all other things and pay attention to what you are to study. Generally, I prefare to study when places are quite with my telephone turn off else I will fine myself reading and not studying. Many hours on your work is not really the best but being able to apprehend something for just a little time.
I pray that God will give you spiritual direction as you go on.
Nico
